Living Green without Purchasing a $50,000 Hybrid

Our local car dealerships around here seem to have lots of hybrid's inside the show rooms. It used to be there were only muscle cars and the top-of-the-line exotic cars at the dealerships in the showroom. Yes, today they still have one or two of those, but most of the other cars are hybrids. But I'm here to tell you that you can live green without purchasing a $50,000 hybrid. In fact if you will wait for a couple more years, those prices will come down significantly as other players with new models enter the marketplace.

I'm not sure if you wish to buy a Chinese automobile, but Chinese hybrids will soon be available in the US, and they will be more like $15,000 each. Russian carmakers are also putting together a hybrid, which they hope to sell in North America. Maybe they will, and maybe they won't, it's hard to say, but paying $50,000 for an automobile, when a $25,000 automobile (a regular type) can get you from point a to point B using the same body style, doesn't really make a lot of sense.

What I mean to say is are you really going to save $25,000 in gasoline over a 5 to 7 year period, or for however long you own your vehicle? Unless you're driving a tremendous number of miles per year, the answer is no. In other words you are wasting your money by buying a $50,000 hybrid, unless it's really important for you to look spiffy, and eco-friendly in front of all of your friends. I suppose there is a little bit of glamour being able to drive up in a hybrid automobile.

But I would submit to you that there are a lot of $50,000 cars which are looking pretty spiffy on their own, and a lot more luxurious than many of these hybrids. In fact, if you really want to be eco-friendly and get 45 miles to the gallon, you can buy a compact car which will do that, but alas, I imagine that your need to look environmentally friendly trumps the math, physics, and reality of your consumer buying decision. It's unfortunate that so many people are wasting money on these expensive hybrids which is only keeping the cost high for everyone else.

If folks wouldn't spend that much for a hybrid, then carmakers would have to find a way to produce them cheaper and sell them at a lower cost. Let's face it, if you really want to help the environment there are a lot of other ways you can do that without purchasing a $50,000 car. If a hybrid costs $25,000 more, you could buy $25,000 worth of trees and plant them all around your city. That is if you really care about the environment and want to lower the carbon footprint for the world. Isn't it time that you got serious with yourself - look in your mirror! Indeed I hope you'll please consider all this.
